Sunday League and grassroots football is where most people actually play the game. The early kick-offs, the muddy pitches, the last-minute winners that nobody outside the changing room ever hears about. A custom CardStar football card changes that. Put any player centre stage with their photo, name, position and six stats on a design that looks every bit as sharp as anything you would see for the professionals. Choose from 127 designs, pick a size from A5 to A0, and preview the finished card on screen before you order. These are printed to order and cut to the card's outline, so what you see is exactly what arrives.

Why Sunday League players deserve a card of their own

Grassroots football runs on passion. Players give up their weekends, turn up in all weathers and put in the effort week after week without any of the fanfare that professional players get. A personalised football card is a way of saying that their contribution matters. It captures a moment in their football life, whether that is a standout season, a milestone goal tally or simply the fact that they showed up and gave it everything.

These cards work as end-of-season gifts, birthday presents, awards evening prizes or just a bit of fun for the lads in the squad. Because every card is made to order, each one is completely unique to that player. No two need look the same, and the stats can reflect exactly what that player brings to the team.

Choose a design that fits grassroots football

CardStar has 127 designs to choose from, including styles that suit the grassroots game perfectly. Bold, clean layouts put the player photo front and centre. The gold card style adds a touch of prestige for your top performer. The icon style suits a player who has become a legend of the local league. The vintage style gives a nod to football history, which works beautifully for long-serving players.

If you are making cards for a whole squad, picking one design gives you a matching set that looks great laid out together at a presentation evening. Or mix designs to give different players something individual. Either approach works, and the preview on screen means you can see exactly what you are building before anything goes to print.

You can also use the Create your own option to choose your own shape and background if you want something truly bespoke.

Fill in the stats that mean something

Every card has a stats panel with six editable fields alongside the player's name, position and a rating. For a Sunday League card, you get to decide what those six stats actually measure. Goals and assists are obvious choices. But you could go for tackle success, distance covered, penalties missed or simply 'banter'. The card is yours to build, and the stats panel reflects whatever you decide matters.

For a more serious end-of-season card, you might pull real numbers from the season: appearances, goals, clean sheets for a goalkeeper, or pass accuracy if your club tracks it. For a light-hearted gift or a laugh at the awards night, you can be as creative as you like. The player sees the same six-stat layout either way, and it looks just as good.

As you edit each field, the card updates live on screen so there are no surprises when the order goes in.

How the card is made and what it looks like

When you upload the player's photo, the background is removed automatically so the player stands cleanly on the card design rather than against a random backdrop. This is what gives CardStar cards their sharp, professional look even when the original photo was taken on a touchline on a grey Tuesday evening.

Every card is then printed to order and cut to the card's outline. That means the edges follow the shape of the design, not a plain rectangle. The result is a finished card that is ready to frame, pin to a wall, prop on a shelf or hand over at the end-of-season do without needing any extra work. Sizes run from A5 to A0, so you can choose something that fits a desk or go big for a clubhouse wall.

Order cards for the whole squad

Making a card for every player in the team is straightforward with CardStar's team orders tool. You set up the design and share a link. For youth teams, parents can add their child's photo through the link, and you review and approve each one before anything is printed. All the cards come together as one order so the process is simple to manage.

This works brilliantly for end-of-season presentations, awards evenings and sports banquets. You can include a card for the manager or coaches too. Every player gets something personalised with their own photo and their own stats, and the set of cards together makes the occasion feel special. It is the kind of thing players keep for years.

Thank the people who make Sunday happen

Every Sunday side has people who never make the scoresheet: the manager who books the pitch, the mate who washes the kit, the keeper who gets shouted at and the linesman who is nobody's first choice. A card is a fun way to say thanks. Give them a position such as Chief Kit Washer or Player-Manager, fill the six stats with the numbers the team will actually laugh at, and add a photo from the touchline.

It also suits a milestone, such as a 200th appearance, a first goal after a long drought or a farewell to someone moving away. Check names and spellings in the preview, then print one at A5 for a desk or A3 for the clubhouse wall.

Questions, answered

Do I need a professional photo to make the card look good?

Not at all. A clear photo taken on a phone works well. Try to find one where the player's face and kit are visible and the light is reasonable. We remove the background automatically, so even a photo taken on the pitch or in the car park can produce a great result.

What stats should I use for a Sunday League player?

That is entirely up to you. You have six stat fields to fill however you like. Real season numbers such as goals, assists and appearances work well for a serious card. For something more fun, you can use anything that reflects the player's personality or role in the squad. There are no rules here.

Can I make cards for every player in my team at once?

Yes. The team orders tool is built for exactly this. You choose the design, share a link with your squad, and everyone's details come together for one print run. For youth teams, parents can upload their child's photo through the shared link and you approve each one before printing.

What sizes are available and which is best for a grassroots card?

Cards are available in A5 to A0. For a gift or a presentation, A5 or A4 works well as it suits a desk, shelf or bedroom wall. Larger sizes from A3 upwards work well for clubhouses, changing rooms or anyone who wants to make more of a statement.

Can I use CardStar for an end-of-season awards evening?

Absolutely. A personalised card makes a great alternative to a standard trophy or certificate, and it is something players actually keep. You can create cards for the whole squad, pick out award winners with a special design, or do both. The team orders tool makes it straightforward to manage multiple cards at once.

Will the card arrive ready for the clubhouse wall?

Yes. Every card is printed to order and delivered worldwide. The card is cut to its outline and arrives ready to display, frame or hand over at your presentation evening.
